What is the Dallin PTO?

The Dallin Parent/Teacher Organization helps connect parents and caregivers of Dallin students with teachers and the school community. As a Dallin parent or caregiver, you’re automatically part of the PTO – no admission necessary.

Our goals are to:

  • Provide enrichment opportunities that supplement the curriculum
  • Sponsor community-building events for Dallin families
  • Fundraise to support our students, school, and classroom needs.

How do I connect with other families in the Dallin community?
That’s easy: Sign up for and browse our family directory, which allows you to search for classmates and friends by name, grade, teacher, et cetera.

How can I find out more about what is going on?

I want to volunteer! How?

The PTO is powered by volunteers. It’s a great way to participate in the life of your student’s school, on your own time. Email us dallinptoboard@gmail.com with feedback and ideas.

I’m not getting any Dallin or APS emails! Why?

Official emails from Dallin and APS are sent to the email addresses provided when your student registered at APS. Sometimes these emails are routed to Spam or Promotions folders in Gmail. Email Mrs. Burns (sburns@arlington.k12.ma.us) for help.

When you have a child at the Dallin School, you are automatically a member of the Dallin Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

The Dallin PTO’s primary goals are to:

  • Provide enrichment opportunities that supplement the curriculum
  • Sponsor community-building events for Dallin families
  • Fundraise to support our students, school, and classroom needs.

Set up an account on Membership Toolkit to access the online directory that is only accessible to Dallin families and is a valuable resource for connecting with other families. This is also where you can purchase Dallin spirit wear (like t-shirts) and donate to our Annual Fund.

Get Involved

The PTO relies on volunteers to provide support to students, teachers, and the larger Dallin community. Whether you want to do hands-on organizing of an event or stay behind the scenes sending some emails, we hope you will consider volunteering to your comfort level!

Consider volunteering to be on the PTO Board or to lead a PTO-organized effort (lots of opportunities, big and small!). Sign up now!

We are also looking for two room parents for each classroom. Room parents serve as the primary contact with the teacher and to help coordinate parents for the various classroom activities and needs. Learn more and sign up here.

PTO Meetings

The PTO meets monthly during the school year, some of the meetings are in the evenings (7 p.m.) and some are in the mornings (8:15 a.m.) You can see minutes from our previous meetings here.

As many of you may know, a family in our Dallin community has suffered the tragic loss of their home in a fire and another community member has started a GoFundMe to support their needs during this difficult time. At this time, this is the preferred method to support their needs. If we learn of more specific needs, we will reach out to the community.

We are so excited that registration is now open for the Dallin Spring Online Auction!

What was originally planned as a Spring 2020 in person event has now transformed into a smaller (but still awesome!) Spring 2021 online auction. The goal is still the same–to raise money to support curriculum enrichment, teacher appreciation, supplies, and much more!  We are incredibly grateful to our generous sponsors and donors who have made the auction possible.

Please reach out to dallinschoolauction@gmail.com with any questions!

REGISTER!

Go to virtualauction.bid/Dallin2021 and click REGISTER: Create an account! You do not need to add a credit card if you’d prefer to pay by check/cash, just click “Skip this step” on the Register Card step. Once you’re registered, you can also download the Auctria app, and enter the Access Code you receive in your confirmation email to follow the auction.

Credit card fees: Feel free to register a credit card for ease of payment but, note,  there is a processing fee that will be added to your total for credit card payments. It is approximately $3.80 for every $100. If you do not wish to pay the fee, then please plan on paying for items with cash or a check payable to the Dallin PTO.

BID!

Click AUCTION at virtualauction.bid/Dallin2021 (or click on the Auctria app if you’ve downloaded it!): Between June 1st at 5pm and June 8th at 9pm, bidding will be open!  You’ll be prompted to sign-in with your account registration information.

What is “proxy” bidding? When you enter a bid, you can also enter a “proxy” bid. A “proxy” bid is the maximum amount you’re willing to spend on an item. If you are outbid, your bid will automatically be increased (by the minimum bid increment) so that you remain the item winner–unless someone else outbids your maximum bid!

PAY AND PICK-UP ITEMS!

You can pay online with a credit card (super quick and easy but includes a small credit card fee) or pay by cash or check to Dallin PTO. Payments can be made and items picked up at Dallin from 8-9am on Wednesday, June 9th, or delivery/pick-up alternatives in Arlington will be arranged.  Quick payment is very much appreciated!

THANK OUR GENEROUS SPONSORS AND DONORS!

Click Sponsors and Donors: Our sponsors financially supported us through cash donations in early 2020. These donations have helped to sustain Dallin PTO efforts during this challenging year. Our donors donated the amazing items you see up for auction. Please support these local businesses as they have supported us!

At our last PTO meeting, families generated some new ideas for ways to keep connected with each other.

First, we’re launching a community bulletin board (using jamboard) for families to ask questions of other Dallin families, share events, or  post something you’re “in search of”. We realize that some families use social media for this purpose, but other families do not, so this will offer a new way to connect.  Checking back frequently and responding to other families’ posts will increase its usefulness so please give it a try!

Second, we’ve created a virtual suggestion box in case you have ideas or thoughts to share.

Also, don’t forget to-

Finally, we’ve generated lots of great community-building ideas (e.g., scavenger hunts, game nights, clubs, etc.), but we are really struggling to find enough volunteers to get new ideas off the ground.  Can you spare a small amount of time to help out with a community-building event?  Please send an email to dallinptoboard@gmail.com.

Additional Opportunities to Volunteer

We are excited to reconnect with the Dallin community for the 2020-2021 school year!

By having a child at the Dallin School, you are automatically a member of the Dallin Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

This will be a year like no other, and the Dallin PTO Board and committee chairs have already started discussions of how best to meet our mission during this unique year. We plan to continue to provide financial and organizational support for enrichment activities to supplement the curriculum, sponsor community-building events, and provide supplemental financial support to teachers and staff so they can best serve our students. Whether your child will be a hybrid or remote student, our goal is to support the whole Dallin community.

Stay Informed

Dallin official information is emailed to registered families using the e-mail address they provided at registration. You can also subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Facebook and Twitter. More information about ways to stay informed is available here.

With kids coming to school on different days or learning remotely full-time, the Dallin Directory will be a key resource for staying connected to other families. The Directory is online and you can access it on the web or through an app. The school directory is distributed only to the Dallin community. Register or update your information here.

Volunteer Opportunities

Typically, Dallin PTO has a variety of ways to volunteer, whether you want to do hands-on organizing of an event or stay behind the scenes sending some emails – you’re encouraged to volunteer to your comfort level!

PTO Meetings

We usually meet the first Wednesdays of the month September through May. We plan to start the year with virtual meetings.

Our first virtual meeting will be Wednesday, October 7 at 7 p.m.

Dear Dallin Community:

I hope this message finds you all safe and healthy.

Given the current circumstances, there is no plan to resume regular publication of the Dallin Digest at this time. Instead, the Dallin PTO will publish a special edition of the newsletter featuring student content—but we’re going to need your help!

Please send student content you’d like published to dallinnewsletter@gmail.com by midnight on Friday, April 17. Wondering what to send? Here are a few possibilities:

  • Artwork
  • Writing
  • Jokes
  • Puzzles
  • Pictures
  • Activity Ideas

Feel free to be creative. The goal of the Dallin Digest: Student Edition is to connect Dallin students and let them know what their friends and classmates have been up to in the weeks since the school closed and social distancing began in earnest.

We aim to publish the first Student Edition shortly after the submission deadline. If there is enough interest and submitted content, it could become a regular thing.

If you have questions, comments, or suggestions you can reach me by responding to this message. Thanks!

Mike Merrill, Dallin Digest Editor

Note: By submitting material you are granting permission for the Dallin PTO to publish it in both the email newsletter and at dallinnewsletter.wordpress.com. We will not publish student last names unless otherwise requested.
